"The Pupils Voice"
Welcome to Dunsville School Council.
If you have any suggestions or views you think the School Council could help with, act on or talk to Mr Flint about then e-mail them on schoolcouncil@dunsville.doncaster.sch.uk
Elections are over and the following council members have been elected for this school year.
They are; Chloe; Bobby; Georgina; Taylor; Millie; Tyler; Codie; Liam; Lauren and Joe.
We have an active School Council. Over the past few years we have;
-
Assisted in appointing new staff.
-
Provided evidence for awards such as the Healthy Schools Award.
-
Held charity days - we had a blue day for Bluebell Wood.
-
Run whole school competitions - at Easter we design Easter Baskets, Cards and Bonnets.
-
Held special assemblies.
-
Meet and greet guests and parents on open days.
-
We helped design the Trim Trail, stage and outdoor classroom.
We hold meetings regularly so that the pupils have a chance to put forward ideas and questions.
Over the past few months the School Council has been busy. We elected Lauren as Chair, Millie as Vice-Chair, Chloe as Secretary and Joe as Treasurer.
In early October two new members from Class 4 joined the School Council, April and Charlie who will put forward the views of KS1. A big welcome to you both.
In November we were invited to Barnby Dun School to help form a Trust Council made up of representatives from the other Trust Schools. Lauren and Liam represented Dunsville School Council at the first meeting. They enjoyed it and helped set up a competition about verbal bullying. We ran this at our school with the winning entries going forward to a Trust display at Barnby Dun. Since then other meetings have been held at Barnby Dun.
At the beginning of December Mr Flint asked the School Council to help interview potential GTP candidates who came to our school to be assessed. We did this over two days, interviewing four each day, we all took turns and enjoyed the experience.
Mrs Wilson, our Literacy Co-ordinator, asked the School Council if they would give their opinions about a lot of new books she wanted to add to the school reading scheme which she is currently updating. We had a great time looking at lots of new and exciting books that will be coming into school shortly, she also took note of a few we didn't like!
At our last meeting we put together lots of ideas on how we could celebrate the school's 60th anniversary which will take place on Friday 24th February. Some of the suggestions were; hold a 1952 type lesson; invite anyone who was at the school on its opening day back; play games from the 1950s. These and other suggestions were pasted to Mr Flint for consideration.
That's all for this update, see you next time.
